Siemon's Valerie Maguire to chart Single-Pair Ethernet cabling's emergence for Cabling and Networking Standards Summit

March 19, 2018
Valerie Maguire, BSEE, holds the position of Director of Standards and Technology at Siemon.

On May 9, Cabling Installation & Maintenance (CI&M) and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) jointly will host a day-long seminar devoted to standards-development activities and standards compliance. Titled the Cabling and Networking Standards Summit, the event will include reports from members of several subcommittees within the TIA’s TR-42 Telecommunications Cabling Systems Engineering Committee. TR-42 develops cabling standards including the TIA-568, TIA-942, TIA-569, TIA-606 series and others, as well as Telecommunications Systems Bulletins (TSBs) covering cabling-system specification, design, and installation.

Valerie Maguire, BSEE, holds the position of Director of Standards and Technology at Siemon. As a distinguished presenter for the Cabling and Networking Standards Summit, Maguire's expertise is focused on balanced twisted-pair and optical fiber telecommunications cabling and transmission theory. She is TIA TR-42 appointed liaison to IEEE 802.3, Treasurer of the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Working Group, and Chief Editor of the IEEE P802.3cg 10BASE-T1 amendment project, and has held leadership positions in the TIA TR-42 Telecommunications Cabling Systems Engineering Committee and TIA-TR-42.7 Copper Cabling Subcommittee for eight two-year terms. In addition, she has authored over 50 technical articles and engineering papers, holds one U.S. Patent, received the BICSI 2008 Harry J. Pfister Award for Excellence in Telecommunications, and was named one of CI&M’s Top 20 Positive Contributors to the Cabling and Networking Industry.

Valerie Maguire's presentation at the Cabling and Networking Standards Summit is entitled, "Single-Pair Cabling's Emergence Into Industrial and Enterprise Networks." The seminar is described thusly: "Single-twisted-pair cabling technology is an established medium in the automotive industry, enabling automobile manufacturers to produce vehicles with advanced capabilities. Data-connectivity needs in environments such as industrial and manufacturing facilities has driven the development of standards for single-pair cabling systems in industrial and enterprise networks. This presentation will detail the TIA's standard-development activities in this regard, including information about the following standards-under-development: TIA-568.5 Single Twisted-Pair Cabling and Components Standard; TIA-862-B Addendum 2; TIA-568.0-D Addendum 2; and TIA-1005-A Addendum 4, Single Balanced Twisted-Pair use Cases and Topology for Industrial Premises."

The event also will include tabletop-type displays from sponsors. The intent of these displays is for Summit attendees to have the opportunity to work and familiarize themselves with products and systems that comply with the standards discussed during the sessions.
