Unistrut offering free BIM models

Nov. 13, 2013
Files are available in both .rvt and .rva formats.

In a continuing effort to offer its customers and end-users state-of-the-art technology, Unistrut has announced the availability of free BIM models through its website www.smartbim.com.

The available models consist of over 1500 of the most specified and highest selling items in its product line, says Unistrut. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is CAD (Computer Aided Design) software used to virtually design and maintain a facility. Most of today’s construction projects, both new and modifications of existing buildings use some form of BIM modeling. A recent study cited by Unistrut shows that 74% of contractors are using BIM in their designs. Some of the benefits include: reduced costs, reduced project time, clash detection prior to construction and easy to retrieve information.

The Unistrut models are capable of placing the components and part families within the larger scale BIM model and can be utilized to develop a building or structure’s full scale architectural design. The files are available in both .rvt and .rva formats, which are fully embedded with engineering data to provide for design of electrical systems, mechanical systems, seismic bracing and cable management within a full building design.

“The availability of BIM models enables architects and engineers to incorporate Unistrut products directly in to their designs,” said Tim Oliver, director of product management for Unistrut. “This simplifies the sale and ordering of our products for the end-user, giving us a unique advantage in the marketplace.”
