Tester measures, maps voice, data and video cabling

The Scout Pro 2 tester is compatible with remotes that map and ID a location in one step.

The Scout Pro 2 series of testers is the latest cable-test offering from Klein Tools, which describes the product set as “a multifunction tester that tests voice, data and video connections. It also locates cable runs with location ID remotes, supports multiple tones to decipher wires and can measure cable length to a fault, on a reel or in a box.” Scout Pro 2 is compatible with Klein’s Test-n-Map remotes, which test, map and identify a location in a single step, the company adds. “By using the tester and remotes together, the Scout Pro 2 Series will reduce installation verification time by up to 50 percent,” according to the company.

The Scout Pro 2 tests continuity on voice (RJ11/12), data (RJ45) and video (F-connector) connections, and has indicators that include miswires, opens, shorts, and split pairs. It locates cable runs to wall outlets with location-ID remotes, and supports multiple tones as well as control of pins carrying tone with an integrated tone generator. The LT model measures cable length in feet or meters.

The Test-n-Map remotes test, map and identify a location and can test and identify as many as eight locations at once. The remotes are compatible with all Scout Pro 2 Series testers, and also are compatible with Klein Tools’ Scout Pro LT testers.

The test set is available in a number of kit options.

Chris Niklas, product manager with Klein Tools, comments, “With voice/data/video projects, there are a vast number of wires that have to be identified, mapped, and tested to make sure the job is installed properly. This takes an enormous amount of time going back and forth to check wire location IDs and then going back a second time to test that same wire. The Scout Pro 2 Series cable tester, along with the Test-n-Map remotes, cuts that verification process in half, which saves both time and money.”
