Pasternack says the broad bandwidth of the new power combiners (up to 6 GHz) makes them the perfect complement to systems using components such as power amplifiers, antenna feeds, attenuators and switches. A special area of usage for the power combiners is in combining individual power amplifiers together into a large power block in an amplifier system, add the company. According to Pasternack, the new broadband RF combiners offer frequency ranges from 20 MHz to 6 GHz, low insertion loss from 0.35 dB to 1 dB and low VSWR up to 1.30:1. RF power combiners are devices that combine or sum a number of RF input signals to a common output, while maintaining the characteristic impedance of the inputs. As systems become more complex, choosing how best to combine two or more RF signals has become a far more difficult question to answer, notes Pasternack, especially when high power and wide bandwidth are involved.
