FCI acquires assets of MergeOptics, moves into AOC market

Connector and cable assembly manufacturer FCI has acquired the assets of MergeOptics, a manufacturer of active optical cables (AOCs) and optical transceivers.

The active optical cable (AOC) market will predominantly use InfiniBand to interconnect supercomputer systems through 2012, according to the AOC report by LightCounting LLC. Other commercial protocols, such as Gigabit Ethernet, SAS, Fibre Channel, and PCI Express, will not reach significant volumes until 2012.
PIPE International picks Equinix Sydney for data center interconnect of new undersea cable

Equinix has been chosen as key data center interconnect provider for the PIPE Pacific Cable (PPC-1) undersea cable, which runs 6,900 km from Guam to Sydney with a capacity of 2.56 terabits per second.
CommScope adds pre-terminated fiber connectivity to IBM's Portable Modular Data Center

CommScope Enterprise Solutions is teaming with IBM on its Fiber Transport System (FTS) S-Line Solution, a pre-terminated fiber optic platform that can be integrated into IBM’s Portable Modular Data Center (PMDC).
