Online seminar addresses 40/100G, industrial cabling

Sep 1, 2011

Two network-cabling topics being billed as "emerging" will share the stage in a seminar to be delivered online September 13. The topics are industrial networking and 40/100-Gbit/sec high-speed networking. Though distinct from one another, the two topics have been paired in this seminar because they incorporate topics and technologies that are gaining increased attention among many network managers.

Jim Friedl, who directs OEM and partner management for PCN Technology, will deliver a presentation entitled "Leveraging existing wiring to connect industrial machines." In the presentation Friedl will describe alternatives to the rip-and-replace wiring method for environments in which proprietary communications protocols for industrial connectivity give way to Ethernet-based data transfer.

Then Frank Yang, technical marketing manager with CommScope, will provide information for cabling professionals currently facing upgrades to 40/100G, and information for those who want to implement best practices now in order to be prepared for such transmission rates in the future. Yang's presentation will include information on the IEEE's 40/100-Gbit Ethernet specifications and will provide a look into the types of network environments most likely to use 40/100G, as well as the extent to which an upgrade to 40/100G will require new cabling installation.

Individuals who attend the seminar in its entirety will be eligible to receive one continuing education credit for the following BICSI professional designations: RCDD, Installer, Technician, RITP, Certified Trainer.

You can find out more about the seminar here or register for it here.
