Ethernet-to-fiber media converter from Perle extends data transmission distance to 160-km over fiber-optic cabling

Apr 4, 2011

Perle Systems (Nashville, TN) has introduced Ethernet-to-fiber miber media converters that support an operating distance of 160Km.

Copper-based Ethernet connections are limited to a data transmission distance of only 100 meters when using unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable. Via its Ethernet to Fiber Media converters, Perle notes that fiber optic cabling can be used to extend these links up to 160 km.

“Perle has been providing high quality network connectivity solutions since 1976,” says John Feeney, COO of Perle Systems. “The continued expansion of our full-featured media converter line is a testimonial to our corporate strength and full service commitment to our large customer base around the world.”

With this product launch, Perle now offers over 380 types of media converter models to connect 10BaseT, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit to fiber. This enables Perle to offer a solution to connect any fiber and copper cable type and distance, contends the company. All Perle media converters have an on-board microcontroller which deals with error detection and recovery and use only high-end components to ensure product reliability. Perle backs this claim up with a Lifetime Warranty to guarantee user satisfaction.
