JDSU intros handheld optical testers for enterprise, broadband services

Jan 19, 2010

MILPITAS, Calif. -- JDSU has introduced a family of optical test instruments and kits, the JDSU Optical SmartPocket handhelds, to support enterprise and broadband service providers.

JDSU says the Optical SmartPocket handhelds are designed to deliver an easy to use interface, accurate performance and other key features that make them among the most suitable optical test tools for any field technician dealing with optical fiber, contends the company.

With a total of six new meters in the SmartPocket family, JDSU provides a meter for addressing most network structures and test applications. The family of optical instruments and kits includes the JDSU Optical SmartPocket Power Meters and Light Sources.

The JDSU Optical SmartPocket Power Meters (OLP-3x), are designed to offer fast and accurate measurements of optical power level on single mode and multimode optical networks. Mainly used to measure optical power level (dBm) in facilities, telecommunications networks, or cable television fiber optic networks, they can also be combined with LED or laser light sources for insertion loss measurement.

The JDSU Optical SmartPocket Light Sources (OLS-3x) can measure insertion loss and test the continuity in multimode data communications and local area networks as well as single mode telecommunication and cable television-multimedia networks.

"JDSU has a strong heritage of supporting our customers with multifunctional optical handhelds. The new SmartPocket line will phase out the oldest PocketClass handhelds which have sold more than 50,000 units worldwide over the last 10 years," said Enzo di Luigi, general manager in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "The SmartPocket family brings better accuracy, new innovative features and superior performance at a lower price point."

For more information about the SmartPocket test meters and features, visit JDSU at booth #1102 at the BICSI Winter Conference and Exhibition, January 17-21 in Orlando, Florida. Information is also available at: www.jdsu.com/smartpocket.
