Oct 5, 2010

IRVINE, Calif. -- Solarflare Communications, a supplier of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) network adapters, silicon and middleware, announced that the Ethernet Alliance has elected Bruce Tolley, Solarflare's vice president of solutions marketing, as a director for 2010-2011.

At Solarflare, Tolley is responsible for solutions and outbound marketing, which includes technical, event and partner marketing activities. Previously, he served as Solarflare's vice president of marketing and director of product management.

Prior to joining Solarflare, Tolley was a senior product line manager at Cisco Systems where he managed the Ethernet transceiver business that included product life cycle management and the launch of Metro Ethernet, 10 Gigabit and 1000BASE-T switch solutions. Formerly Study Group Chair of the IEEE 802.3aq 10GBASE-LRM standards project, Tolley is a frequent contributor to the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standards projects. He holds a BA from UC Santa Cruz, MA from Stanford University, MBA from Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley, and a PhD from Stanford University.

"I am proud to be elected as director of the Ethernet Alliance, as its mission to promote Ethernet technologies aligns well with Solarflare's expertise and my heritage," said Tolley. "The Ethernet Alliance is comprised of a talented, dedicated and diverse body of technologists, marketers and executives all pushing toward a single goal. I look forward to helping them lead the development and promotion of the next generation of Ethernet standards with customers, vendors and the standards community."

The Ethernet Alliance is an industry group dedicated to the continued success and expansion of Ethernet technology. It was created to promote industry awareness, acceptance and advancement of technology and products based on existing and emerging IEEE 802 Ethernet standards. The organization accelerates industry adoption and removes barriers to market entry by providing a cohesive, market responsive, industry voice on IEEE 802 Ethernet projects. As a member of the board of directors, Tolley will contribute to the governance of the Alliance and work with his fellow directors to set direction of the Alliance in order to fulfill its mission and objectives.
