HDBaseT Alliance membership rising

Mar 4, 2011

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- HDBaseT Alliance, the cross-industry alliance formed to promote and standardize HDBaseT technology for whole-home distribution of uncompressed high-definition (HD) multimedia content, announced the addition of 23 companies to its membership base.

HDBaseT is billed as the first connectivity solution to deliver all-in-one, HD multimedia connectivity using an existing cable and connector. Using a 100m/328ft, Cat5e/6 LAN cable with standard RJ-45 connectors, already installed in many homes, HDBaseT simultaneously sends "the 5Play feature set" (full HD video, audio, Internet, 100W power, and controls) throughout a home or commercial setting, according to HDBaseT Alliance.

Adopter members include: Crestron Electronics; Lastar, Inc; CWIN Technology; Legrand / Ortronics; Elka International; MiniFrame, Ltd.; Gefen, LLC; Smart Home Engineering Corp (SHE); Grandbeing Technology Co., Ltd.; SURE-FIRE Electrical Corporation; Hank Electronics; Transformative Engineering; Himax Technologies; Vaux Electronics; Intersil Corporation; Kordz.

“All of these companies play a pivotal role in defining and advancing the development and adoption of the HDBaseT standard,” said Ariel Sobelman, president of the HDBaseT Alliance. “With the support of our members and their valuable expertise in different areas of the multimedia distribution and networking industry, HDBaseT technology is well positioned to become the installer and consumer’s first choice for multimedia connectivity.”

Founded by LG Electronics, Samsung, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Valens Semiconductor, the HDBaseT Alliance says it has experienced notable growth since its incorporation in June 2010. Together with the founding board members, a variety of consumer and commercial industry market leaders have joined the Alliance.

Development and preparation for an HDBaseT Alliance Compliance Program is currently underway. In the coming months, the Alliance plans to formulate a logo usage and licensing program to ensure consistency and consumers’ ability to recognize interoperable HDBaseT devices in the market.
