Cable termination nets installer a trip to Cabo

Oct 1, 2010

Quick termination = Cabo vacation.

That's how it turned out for Bentley Nekritz of Crane Wire and Communication in Laguna Hills, CA. Nekritz participated in a promotion put on by comCables at the BICSI Fall Conference held in Las Vegas, NV September 12 through 16. In July we told you about the introduction of comCables' Rapid Punch Tool (RPT). comCables had the tool at its booth during the exhibition portion of the BICSI event, and promised a paid seven-day vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for whoever could terminate a twisted-pair copper cable the fastest using the RPT. Nekritz got the prize for his 18.56-second termination.

"My strategy was to watch a few people use the RPT tool and see what was working for them," he said, adding that he even surprised himself with how quickly he was able to terminate a cable to a jack.

comCables also recognized the second- and third-fastest terminations of the contest, turned in by Tim McHugh of KS Telecom (23.32 seconds) and Jared Kelly of Vision Communications (24.19 seconds).

President and CEO of comCables Greg Greenwood said of the RPT, "Our focus is to do everything we can to simplify our clients' jobs." The company plans to hold the contest again at the BICSI Winter Conference in January 2011, offering the same vacation prize to the winner.
