Legrand|Ortronics unveils Lumen pre-polished fiber connectors

Jan 21, 2010

Legrand|Ortronics has introduced its Lumen pre-polished fiber connectors. The new Lumen connectors are designed to bring ease and reliability to fiber network field installations by reducing installation time to 2 minutes or less, on a prepared optical fiber, without the need for special installation tools or equipment.

The reusable pre-polished connectors feature a built-in window, in the connector body, that enables a visible fault locator (VFL) to be used to verify proper installation during assembly. The connector may also be reapplied up to five times by deactivating the fiber locking feature, re-cleaving the fiber, and then reinstalling the connector.

Lumen LC connectors are available in 50-micron LOMF, singlemode, and 62.5-micron versions. SC and ST versions will be introduced later this year. Legrand|Ortronics says the connectors work well with both 900-micron buffered distribution type fibers and 250-micron buffered fibers installed with a 900-micron breakout kit.

A complete reusable connector kit option includes all the fiber preparation tools necessary to terminate the connector, including a battery-operated VFL light source, cleave tool, and support handle to hold the VFL and connector during field assembly. The complete field tool kits come in a rugged tool pouch with pockets to hold each tool and spaces to add additional tools if needed.
