Industrial Ethernet media converters target space-constrained environments

Sep 13, 2010

MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- Transition Networks announced the availability of its "mini" Industrial Ethernet line of copper to fiber media converters, designed to extend 10/100 Ethernet networks to devices in remote, space-constrained environments without the need for environmental controls This allows organizations to experience the benefits of Ethernet while saving money and time on infrastructure and environment redesign, maintains the company.

RELATED STORY:  Media converters for changing technologies

The Industrial Mini operates over a wide temperature range of -40 degreesC to +75 degreesC. The unit's terminal block accepts a wide12 - 48VDC power input with reverse polarity power input protection and overload current protection. The small power consumption of just 2.5W further lowers system cost by minimizing heat generation within small enclosures. To further ease installers' jobs the Industrial Mini comes with an installation kit consisting of a DIN-rail bracket, Velcro strips and a DC power barrel connector. A wall-mount bracket and AC-to-DC power supply are offered as optional, labor-saving accessories.

According to the company, with features such as Auto-Negotiation, AutoCross, Link-Pass-Through, Automatic Link Restoration and Far-End-Fault, the Industrial Mini is a plug-and-play solution for transparent insertion into any existing network. Product availability and configuration for the Industrial Mini media converters is available now in the following models:

"As Ethernet continues to proliferate into many different applications and environments, we're seeing the importance for a variety of different form factors to accommodate space and temperature requirements," said Patrick Schaber, Director of Marketing at Transition Networks. "For example, many cities, transportation systems, utilities and ports are now deploying large, Ethernet-based, video security networks in outdoor locations. The Industrial Mini is an ideal solution for bringing Ethernet to small, confined spaces such as housings in camera installations."
