ADC, Tyco settle patent lawsuit with licensing agreements

Oct 30, 2009

October 30, 2009ADC announced today it has settled the patent-infringement lawsuit it filed against Tyco Electronics in September 2008. According to ADC, under the terms of the settlement, Tyco has taken a license to certain ADC patents directed to fiber-to-the-premises technology. Additionally, the patent Tyco asserted in the course of the lawsuit was assigned to ADC as part of the settlement.

ADC stated its patents relate to fiber distribution hubs, optical splitter modules, and fiber drop terminals that are widely deployed in the fiber-to-the-premises market.

In its statement, ADC claimed the settlement as an acknowledgement of the company’s patent portfolio. “ADC has an industry standard license available to our FTTX portfolio,” said Jaxon Lang, vice president global connectivity solutions, Americas, for ADC. “With Tyco Electronics agreeing to take a license to ADC’s portfolio, it provides recognition of the value of our portfolio by companies making fiber distribution hubs and fiber drop terminals for the FTTX market.”
