Panduit, Teranetics mount live 10GBASE-T demo

Nov 20, 2007

November 20, 2007 -- Panduit and Teranetics jointly demonstrated 10GBASE-T multi-vendor interoperability at the SuperComputing 07 (SC07) tradeshow in Reno, NV, held November 10 -16. According to the companies, conducted at the Teranetics booth, the public demo showcased "a complete ecosystem" of 10GBASE-T products that included switch and NIC adapter ports operating over 100 meters of Category 6A UTP cabling and connectivity.

Teranetics' TN1010 PHY single-chip 10GBASE-T physical layer technology was the base technology used in each of the 14 active ports connected over the Panduit TX6 10GIG UTP copper cabling system. The Panduit infrastructure was configured in a 6-around-1 topology with 4 connectors over 100 meters, which is the worse case operating environment defined by the IEEE and TIA standards, and considerably more demanding for alien crosstalk conditions than traditional field installations, according to the companies.

"Teranetics TN1010 is fully compliant with 10GBASE-T specifications including latency, which is critical for high performance computing," contends Kamal Dalmia, vice president of marketing at Teranetics. "The TN1010 seamlessly auto-negotiates with existing 1G equipment and extends the familiar RJ-45 'plug-and-play' connectivity model to 10 Gigabit Ethernet."

"The success of this demonstration indicates that the Panduit TX6 10GIG copper cabling system in combination with other 10GBASE-T technologies are ready for implementation in data centers, alleviating bandwidth bottlenecks to deliver high efficiency networks," adds Steve Skiest, Panduit's business development manager.

Panduit's TX6 10GIG system includes jack modules, copper cable, patch cords and patch panels. The company notes that each component in the system features complementary design technologies that work together to suppress alien NEXT, while providing Category 6A/Class EA electrical performance beyond 500 MHz.
