Dow Electrical & Telecommunications, which provides plastic materials used in the manufacture of cable, announced a price increase that will go into effect October 1, 2011. The price increase is effective for North America.
All grades of material used for telecommunications cables will go up in price 6 cents per pound, Dow says.
Also increasing by 6 cents per pound are grades used for power-cable jacketing. Low- and medium-voltage insulation compounds are increasing 9 cents per pound, as are semicon and shield compounds, Dow says. Additionally, specific Dow brands Unipurge DFDB-0964 NT, as well as Engage and Nordel grades will increase in price 9 cents per pound.
