StarPound Technologies leverages Amazon EC2 cloud computing platform

Apr 14, 2009

April 14, 2009 -- StarPound Technologies announced deployment of its StarPound CORE open-source platform in the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). Leveraging the Amazon Web services, StarPound now offers on-demand IP-based PBX service, call center applications, custom Internet telephony applications, and its voice and business process management (BPM) platform.

StarPound says its move to Amazon EC2 allows it to offer its customers significant economies of scale and faster deployment of enterprise telephony and BPM technology.

"For several years now, we've had the view that voice applications and BPM are the next frontier in the cloud computing space," comments Scott Burkett, chief operating officer, StarPound Technologies. "Amazon has invested billions of dollars over the past decade towards building the infrastructure, technical knowledge, and operational excellence to operate a world class, high-availability hosting infrastructure. By taking advantage of their expertise and platform, we can cost-effectively deploy and scale our feature-rich enterprise-grade IP PBX and call center suite, as well as fully leverage our enterprise BPM and unified communications platform to help our customers save money and even generate new revenue streams."

With many pervasive and widely accessible forms of communication available, StarPound's belief is that telephony should not be cost prohibitive to any new business interested in using voice technology to operate more efficiently, cut costs and grow its offerings. The principles of open-source and free continue to be the focus of StarPound's solution strategy.

"Businesses turn to StarPound for our dedication to open-source platforms and our commitment to driving key infrastructure costs as close to zero as possible," adds Burkett. "By leveraging Amazon Web Services, we gain access to a flexible, scalable and reliable cloud computing environment that furthers our mission in the marketplace. Why should a customer have to leverage antiquated models for paying software licenses, maintenance, and infrastructure year-round, when they can shift to a per-use, on-demand model? The cost savings that we are seeing with our customers border on being unbelievable."

"We are pleased that StarPound is able to extend the functionality of Amazon Web Services to their customers," adds Steve Rabuchin, director of Developer Relations and Business Development for Amazon Web Services. "We've created Amazon Web Services for companies like StarPound to extend highly scalable, reliable and cost effective options to their customers."

Alan Taetle, partner with Noro-Moseley Partners, an investor in StarPound Technologies, agrees. "From our perspective, the combination of on-demand cloud computing, open-source software, and multi-media distribution of voice and data offers some compelling advantages over traditional business technology approaches. We continue to be excited about StarPound's positioning, as it sits in the center of this convergence."
