Web seminar addresses 40-, 100-GbE optic cabling

Apr 20, 2009

April 20, 2009 -- A Web-delivered seminar hosted by Cabling Installation & Maintenance on Wedensday, April 29 will discuss optical-cabling infrastructure that will support forthcoming 40- and 100-Gbit Ethernet transmission. Currently the IEEE is developing specifications for 40- and 100-GbE protocols, and this seminar is meant to provide some insight into the IEEE's standard-in-progress as well as the cabling options that will allow 40- and 100-GbE transmission.

Sponsored and presented by ADC, Corning Cable Systems, and OFS, the seminar will also discuss the development of the OM4 specifications for multimode fiber -- an effort currently underway within the TIA. Additionally, a presentation will discuss the connectivity required to accommodate the parallel nature of the transmission protocols. Previous optical-based Ethernet protocols were serial, meaning the entire signal traveled on a single optical fiber. In the case of 40- and 100-GbE, multiple fibers will carry the signal. That is, 40-GbE will essentially be 4x10-GbE transmission, and 100-Gbe will essentially be 10x10-GbE transmission.

Those who view the Web seminar will be eligible to receive on Continuing Education Credit

from BICSI.
