May 7, 2009--BICSI has published the second edition of the Electronic Safety and Security Design Reference Manual (ESSDRM). The manual addresses the convergence of security systems, such as access control and surveillance, onto the network and its impact on future security designs.
"In today's business environment, the ESS professional is of particular importance to assist with providing security, protection, and life safety based systems," says Edward Donelan, RCDD, BICSI president. "This new second edition of the ESSDRM captures the current state of physical security aspects that BICSI readers are likely to encounter."
BICSI says the new ESSDRM is "written to global best practices, vendor-neutral, carefully researched, and precisely written and edited by key industry professionals who are referred to as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)."
The ESSDRM, 2nd edition, will soon become the foundation document for those who seek the knowledge to become a specialist in ESS design. Under BICSI's NxtGEN Program, the Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) credential will not be required as a prerequisite for the new ESS credential. The exam will be based on the 2nd edition of the ESSDRM. The first opportunity to sit for the exam will be at the 2009 BICSI Fall Conference in Las Vegas.
The ESSDRM is available in a three-ring binder or on CD-ROM, and sells to BICSI members for $279 ($499 non-members). A combination set of both the manual and CD-ROM can be purchased for $433 (members) or $789 (non-members).
