May 29, 2009--October 12-31 will be the next test period for the IEEE Wireless Communication Engineering Technologies (IEEE WCET) Certification Program examination. Applications will be accepted July 6 through Sept. 4.
The IEEE WCET Program was designed by IEEE ComSoc and an international collection of industry experts to provide wireless professionals with a quantifiable method for certifying their wireless communications expertise, and highlighting these capabilities to the marketplace. It was also developed to offer employers a practical and vendor-neutral way to qualify the knowledge and skills of potential job candidates.
To earn the IEEE Wireless Communication professional (WCP) credential, individuals with a bachelor's or comparable degree from an accredited institution and at least three years of professional wireless engineering experience must pass the comprehensive examination. Administered on computer at selected worldwide locations, the IEEE WCET exam is composed of 150 multiple choice questions. Applicants are given up to four hours to complete the exam.
The $500 fee ($450 for IEEE and IEEE ComSoc members) covers the application, processing fees and "seat fee" for taking the test. A certificate is sent to those who pass the exam. In addition, a 75-question practice exam can be purchased online by communications professionals who would like to gauge their preparedness for the official exam prior to the next testing period.
