Fujikura to expand FAST fiber optic connector line

Sep 16, 2009

September 16, 2009 -- Fujikura Europe plans to expand its FAST Series of fiber optic connectors, debuting 2- and 3-mm ST (Straight Tip) type versions for the first time at the European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC 2009) in Vienna, Austria.

The new ST type connectors are designed for multimode, LAN, and CCTV applications and follow Fujikura's previous introduction of 2- and 3-mm connectors with SC and LC versions last year.

The Fujikura FAST (Field Assembly with Simple Technique) Series is designed to offer installers assembly in five easy steps: stripping the fiber, cleaning, cleaving, fiber insertion, and release of a disposable wedge tool to achieve the completion of assembly.

Key features of the new connectors, according to the company, include:

* Connector termination in less than 60 seconds
* No epoxy
* Termination to both 0.25-mm and 0.9-mm fiber
* No specialized tooling or training needed
* Low insertion loss and back reflection

The FAST connectors cater to 250-micron and 900-micron singlemode and multimode fiber. They were all designed with simplicity in mind.
