Mellanox offering limited time 10/40-GbE connectivity bundles

Jul 25, 2011

Mellanox Technologies (NASDAQ: MLNX) has announced a "beta lab" bundle promotion for its 10 and 40 Gigabit Ethernet end-to-end connectivity products for for data center servers and storage systems.

Available through September 30, 2011, the promotional product bundles feature one SX1035 10/40 GbE Ethernet "Lite L2" switch, four ConnectX-3 EN 10 or 40 GbE PCIe 3.0 x8 adapter cards, four 3 meter passive copper cables, a one year manufacturer's warranty and Mellanox hardware and software bring-up assistance support for a period of three months. The bundles are designed to enable customers to economically evaluate high bandwidth, low-latency end-to-end Mellanox Ethernet solutions.

"Mellanox's SwitchX and ConnectX solutions give IT managers flexibility in how they deploy higher bandwidth to servers, providing simple upgrade paths from gigabit Ethernet to 40 Gigabit Ethernet," said Marc Sultzbaugh, vice president of worldwide sales at Mellanox Technologies. "We are pleased to offer this limited time bundle to our customers so that they may quickly gain hands-on experience and see the many benefits Mellanox's end-to-end 40 Gigabit Ethernet solutions deliver to their business."

The 36-port 10/40 GbE SX1035 high density switch with QSFP connectors is designed with Mellanox's SwitchX architecture to deliver up to 2.88TB/s of non-blocking throughput in a single 1U enclosure. The SX1035 switch delivers latency performance as low as 230ns at 40 GbE and 250ns at 10 GbE for faster application response time. To meet the diverse needs of data centers of all sizes, the SX1035 offers flexible configurations supporting up to 36 40 GbE connections or 64 10 GbE connections. The typical power consumption for these flexible network installations is an industry-low 2.8 Watts per 40GbE port and 1.3 Watts per 10 GbE port.

The ConnectX-3 10 and 40 GbE adapter cards boost application efficiency and scalability while maintaining extremely low system power consumption to offer optimized latency and performance for converged I/O infrastructures. The high bandwidth eliminates the need for multiple Ethernet connections to the server and doubles the throughput of prior generations. ConnectX-3 accelerates RDMA applications with hardware-based RoCE (RDMA over Converged Ethernet), delivering efficient RDMA transport over Layer 2 Ethernet with latencies less than 1.3us. For enhanced agility, customers can combine ConnectX-3 with Mellanox VMA software to accelerate socket-based applications with latencies as low as 4us. The 40 GbE connectivity is backwards compatible to 10GbE, allowing data centers to utilize their existing infrastructure while planning for future expansion.

Mellanox also offers robust 40GbE QSFP passive copper cables and 10GbE QSFP-SFP+ hybrid copper cables to complement the SX1035 switch and ConnectX-3 adapter cards. The cables offer superior performance and link reliability for 10 and 40 GbE networking connectivity in the rack.
