A preview of TIA cabling standards under development

Sep 29, 2011

Having just hosted a web seminar discussing cabling standards recently completed by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), Cabling Installation & Maintenance is now turning its attention to several TIA cabling standards that are still under development but promise to influence the design, installation and management of structured cabling systems once they are finalized. On October 12, the web-delivered seminar entitled "TIA Standards Under Development" will provide information about the TIA-942-A Data Center Cabling Standard, the TIA-606-B Administration (labeling) Standard, and other in-the-works specifications from the TIA. After its live broadcast on October 12, the seminar will be available on-demand for six months.

Committees within the TIA's TR-42 have been working on both of the aforementioned standard revisions for some time. The web seminar will offer updates on the standards' status as well as the changes from previous versions that may be included in the revised specifications. In addition to TIA-942-A and TIA-606-B, the seminar will discuss the efforts underway to standardize bend-insensitive multimode fiber, and the possibility of a new TIA category cabling standard - perhaps Category 7 or Category 7A.

Individuals who attend the seminar in its entirety will be eligible to earn one continuing education credit (CEC) from BICSI toward the organization's RCDD, RITP, Installer, Technician and Certified Trainer professional designations.

You can find more info about the seminar here or register for it here.
