802.11, DAS, wireless testing covered in web seminar

Mar 31, 2011

A seminar hosted by Cabling Installation & Maintenance and delivered via the web on April 13 will include three presentations on wireless systems used inside buildings.

Gregory Santee, director of business development with CommScope Enterprise will cover the topic of distributed antenna systems, describing best practices for the planning, design and implementation of DAS within buildings.

Then Scott Thompson, co-founder and engineering director with Oberon Inc. will discuss the latest-generation and next-generation technology in high-speed 802.11-based wireless LAN systems. In addition to presenting on the increasing bandwidth consumption placed on wireless LANs by mobile devices, Thompson will provide information on two IEEE standards aimed at higher-speed wireless LAN transmission - 802.11ac and 802.11ad. Both standards have projected approval dates of December 2012.

Fluke Networks' product manager for portable network tools Carolyn Carter will deliver the final presentation on verifying wireless LANs. Her presentation will include information on interference, site surveys, and the physical-layer cabling that supports wireless networks - including Power over Ethernet capabilities.

Webcast attendees can earn one continuing education credit (CEC) toward the following BICSI designations: RCDD, Installer 2 Copper/Fiber, Technician, RITP, Certified Trainer. After the event takes place live in April 13, it will be archived and available for viewing for six months.
