Tennessee's main telephone co-op selects Adtran's FTTH, IPTV platform for Broadband Stimulus network rollout

Oct 12, 2011

IP networking products provider Adtran, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN) announced that Twin Lakes Telephone Cooperative Corp., Tennessee’s largest telephone cooperative, has selected Adtran’s extensive broadband portfolio and Advanced Operational Environment (AOE) services management solution for use throughout its network.

The Adtran products will be used to deliver residential and business services including triple-play – voice, data and video – using IPTV architecture via Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH). The installation, being done under a federal Broadband Stimulus award initiative, will reach over 12,000 business and residential customers in the region.

In addition, the service provider is also expanding the use of the Adtran solutions for high-bandwidth mobile backhaul applications.

The flexibility of Adtrans’s Total Access 5000 and its ability to configure and provision multiple services from a single platform was cited as a key reason for the selection by Twin Lakes. In addition, with the use of the Total Access 5000, Twin Lakes says it can easily deploy mobile backhaul services using a variety of gigabit fiber connections.

Additional consideration in the selection of the Adtran product line, according to the co-op, included the features found in the ServiceCheck application of Adtran’s AOE, says the company. This application provides comprehensive diagnostics up through the service layer, and enables Twin Lakes to easily determine the integrity of the service.

“Adtran’s FTTH solution combined with the service management features of AOE allowed us to streamline our operations and immediately offer cutting-edge, revenue-generating services to our customers,” commented Jonathan West, General Manager/CEO, Twin Lakes Telephone Cooperative. “Adtran has enabled us to simplify our network and minimize capital expenditures, allowing us to reach more customers with next-generation services.”

Since the final round of Broadband Stimulus funding was announced, Adtran claims that its Total Access 5000 has been the platform of choice for increasing numbers of Tier 3 and CLEC service provider FTTH deployments. The product enables service providers to solve the key challenges for modernizing existing networks by easily accommodating 10 Gbps transport rings, supporting FTTH access and migrating existing connections to Ethernet transport. End-to-end service activation and service assurance is also supported under a single management system which simplifies network operations.

“We are pleased to be providing Twin Lakes with an industry-leading broadband access solution with a proven track record of performance,” said Mitch Fleming, regional vice president, sales, Adtran Carrier Networks Division. “Their achievement of the Broadband Stimulus award will enable wide spread adoption of advanced broadband services throughout the communities they serve.”
