BTI Systems' advanced optical connectivity lands in major Singapore metro network

Dec 16, 2011

OTTAWA, Ontario and SINGAPORE -- Epsilon Telecommunications announced that it is upgrading its Singapore metro network with BTI Systems' (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) Dynamic Optical Layer platform, to provide full wavelength and service flexibility across all of the provider's major co-location facilities in Singapore.

Epsilon is the first announced customer to deploy the BTI Dynamic Optical Layer, which will enable rapid delivery of enhanced connectivity services between Epsilon's major Southeast Asia regional telecom hubs.

With a focus on creating high-capacity application-aware service infrastructures for the metro, BTI Systems introduced the Dynamic Optical Layer to the market in August 2011, after working with Epsilon to shape and define the platform's interconnect requirements. BTI says its Dynamic Optical Layer platform brings together ROADM-on-a-Blade and DWDM Line Amplifier modules with an Intelligent Control System that automatically monitors and adjusts the optical layer to meet changing demands. This makes it easy for service providers like Epsilon to instantly deploy wavelength services with improved optical performance and scalability.

Epsilon has a global footprint of more than 60 point-of-presence (POP) sites that deliver SDH, IP, Ethernet, co-location and value added services to service providers through its carrier-neutral interconnect platform. Epsilon chose to upgrade its existing fixed 40-channel optical layer with the Dynamic Optical Layer to ensure that its Singapore metro network can serve as a flexible and rapid interconnect platform to support the booming demand for optical, packet and wavelength services for customers throughout Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Dynamic Optical Layer is currently operating live in Epsilon's global network operations hub in Singapore providing rapid interconnect.

"This is a pioneering project," said George Szlosarek, CTO of Epsilon. "With BTI Systems, we have gained a strong and competent partner in helping us to make optimal use of our network resources to establish connections for our customers in a market where bandwidth consumption for optical services is exploding faster everywhere around the world."

"Service providers find themselves under enormous pressure to act; they have to meet the fast-growing capacity and traffic demands quickly," added Andy Howard, Epsilon Global Account Director for BTI Systems. "Our Dynamic Optical Layer removes the operational complexity we see in metro networks so that service providers like Epsilon can focus on their customers' services and less on characterizing optical performance. The trust that Epsilon has placed in BTI Systems underscores our ability to meet the challenges in metro networks today and in the future."
