The newest textbook from The Fiber Optic Association is titled FOA Reference Guide to Outside Plant Fiber Optics. Designed to be used for training outside-plant (OSP) fiber-optic technicians, study for the FOA's new OSP certification, and as a reference guide for anyone interested in OSP fiber optics, the book is available for $27.95 from the FOA eStore or Amazon.com. It will soon be available on the Apple iPad and Amazon Kindle.

FOA co-founder Jim Hayes explains that OSP fiber optics comprises a tremendous amount of information "including applications like telephone and wireless backhaul, CATV, municipal networks, utility 'smart grid' and any network installed outside buildings." The book covers OSP installation types including undergeround, buried, aerial and submarine as well as the components, installation techniques and testing requirements for each of these applications.

This book is the third in a seires of preinted reference guides from the FOA; the previous two covered fiber optic basics and premises cabling including fiber, copper and wireless. This OSP book was developed from new material on the FOA Online Reference Guide.
