TIA cabling standards covered in web seminar

Oct 1, 2010

TIA cabling standards including the TIA-942-A data center standard, the TIA-1179 specifications for cabling health-care facilities, and the specifications defining OM4 fiber cable will be addressed in a webcast seminar, hosted by Cabling Installation & Maintenance and broadcasting live on Wednesday, October 13. Registration is free.

As we have reported in the past, the TIA-942 data center standard is currently under revision. During the seminar on October 13 Doug Coleman of Corning Cable Systems will report on the original 942 spec and some of the additions and changes that will be worked into its revision.

Ortronics Legrand's Brian Ensign and Berk-Tek's Carol Oliver will deliver a presentation on the TIA-1179 Healthcare Facility Telecom Infrastructure Standard. Published earlier this year, TIA-1179 covers cabling requirements for environments including hospitals, clinics and medical offices. Ensign and Oliver's presentation will explain why the cabling requirements for these environments are vastly different from those for commercial buildings, and how the 1179 standard addresses those requirements.

Then CommScope's Kevin Paschal will make connections between the TIA's OM4 fiber cable specifications and the IEEE's 802.3ba 40- and 100-Gbit Ethernet specs.

A roundtable-style question-and-answer session will follow the three presentations.

Attendees of the seminar who hold BICSI's RCDD, Installer, Technician or Certified Trainer designations can earn one continuing education credit by attending the entire event.

Anyone who is unable to view the event when it broadcasts live on October 13 will still have the opportunity to view it in its entirety, as the event will be available on demand for one year.

Register for the TIA Standards Update webcast seminar.
