Seminar discusses NEC and datacom-cabling relationship

Apr 29, 2011

A seminar to be hosted by Cabling Installation & Maintenance, sponsored by the Communications Cable and Connectivity Association (CCCA), and delivered via the Web will discuss the relationship between the National Electrical Code and data-communications cabling. Entitled "Codes, Standards and Communications Cabling," the seminar will take place live at 1:00 pm EDT on Wednesday, May 11. It will then be available on-demand for six months.

Presenting on behalf of the CCCA will be Stanley Kaufman of CableSafe Inc. A description of Kaufman's presentation reads as follows: "The 2011 edition of the National Electrical Code incorporates significant changes to Article 645 Information Technology Equipment. Many of these changes clarify or alter the article's application to data communications wiring. This presentation will provide information on the conditions under which Article 645 relaxes the requirement for the use of plenum-grade cables in the underfloor plenum of a computer room."

Kaufman authored a white paper for the CCCA that covered this and several other 2011 NEC changes that will have an impact on cabling systems. You can read that white paper here.

The May 11 Web seminar is also scheduled to have a presentation on the recently completed TIA-607-B standard for bonding and grounding telecommunications systems. The individual who will present that information has not yet been determined.

Individuals who attend the seminar are eligible to earn one continuing education credit from BICSI for the following professional designations: RCDD, Installer, Technician, RITP, Certified Trainer.

You can register for the seminar here.
