At a meeting in June, The Connecticut Telecommunications Industry Association was formed as a trade group for installers in the State of Connecticut. Terry Buono, president at Cable Systems of North Haven Inc., is interim president of the association until elections can be held later this year--probably in October.
Several groups attended the meeting, including the regional representative from Building Industry Consulting Service International Inc., representatives from manufacturers--AT&T, Digital Equipment Co., Hubbell Inc., The Siemon Co. and Siemens Rolm--as well as a number of installation companies, a representative from the State of Connecticut and a representative from Yale University.
"We established five committees at the meeting," explains coordinator Byrne Stoddard, marketing director at Cablesys. The committees are as follows:
- Organization and structure
- Membership
- Training and education
- Government and regulatory affairs
- Activities, finance and dues
"The plan was for each committee to meet separately during the summer, before the group reconvenes this fall. We will elect permanent officers--probably for one year--and adopt bylaws and a dues structure. After that, we will try to get a voice in the process of regulation, licensing and training," Stoddard explains. "We`ve had several issues with our current licensing and apprentice training requirements. It`s `horse-and-buggy` regulation of a 1990s cyberspace industry."
