Tessco Technologies Inc. (Sparks, MD), a supplier to the wireless industry, has signed an agreement to acquire Cartwright Communications (Cincinnati, OH) for an undisclosed sum. Cartwright is a value-added distributor of radio-communications equipment serving the Cincinnati area. The acquisition will be operated as a wholly owned Tessco subsidiary.

Faulkner Information Services (Pennsauken, NJ) is now offering Faulkner`s Advisory on Computer and Communications Technologies (FACCTS) on CD-ROM. The database on computing, communications, networking, telecommunications, systems and software is updated with a new CD-ROM monthly, and a bulletin-newsletter with updates comes out every two weeks. Among the annual services available (including help-desk and hot-line support) are local area networks, data networks, telecommunications networks and wireless communications. Services range in price from $500 to $1500. For more information, call (609) 662-2070, or fax (609) 662-0905. You can also visit the Faulkner Web site at http://www.faulkner.com.

The Electrical Contracting Foundation Inc. (ECF, Bethesda, MD) has commissioned research into the opportunities for electrical contractors that may result from electric utility deregulation. The results of this research are published in a study titled Opportunities for Electrical Contractors in the Competitive Electric Utility Industry. The study concludes that among the short-term opportunities are outsourcing of utility services, which almost 30% of the 500 utility executives contacted said they would do. Among the long-term opportunities covered are installing and maintaining telecommunications equipment. The 112-page report is available by calling (301) 215-4504. It costs $20 for NECA members and $40 for nonmembers.

The New York Public Library (NYPL, New York, NY) has announced the opening last month of the new Science, Industry and Business Library. Housed in the Fifth Avenue building that was formerly B. Altman department store, the $100-million project is the most ambitious undertaking of the NYPL since the turn of the century. The high-technology library, hailed by NYPL President Paul LeClerc as "the nation`s premier information center devoted to science and business," permits on-site and remote access to its services, Internet access, online card catalog and image-scanned archives of selected holdings.
