By the Book....

Aug 1, 1996

A buzzword starting to be heard in telecommunications circles is the acronym "SOHO," which stands for "small office/home office." In the age of telecommuting that is supposedly just dawning, the SOHO environment is expected to represent a major new market for telephony, computing and networking vendors. So why not for book publishers too?

How to Cable the Home Office/Small Office: A Complete Guide has recently been published by Flatiron Publishing (New York, NY). The 107-page, large-format paperback is heavily illustrated with black-and-white drawings that explain, step by step, how to convert an existing residential telephone system into a more sophisticated home- office communications center. The book covers designing the system, the communications cabling plan, installation and testing. A glossary and index wrap it up.

Ernest Brosch, the author, spent almost 30 years as a Bell System engineer. Following a stint as a systems consultant for a major computer manufacturer, he hung out his shingle as a consultant, writer and teacher.

Compliant with the EIA/TIA-570 residential wiring standard, the book lists for $24.95. You can order it by calling Flatiron at (212) 691-8215, or faxing (212) 691-1191. Quantity discounts are available. If you call, ask for Flatiron`s booklist of related titles, which mostly fall into the area of computer telephony.
