Corning's OM3 and OM4 fiber performance verified by UL

Jun 14, 2011

Corning Inc. recently announced that Underwriters Laboratories (UL) verified the bandwidth performance of its ClearCurve OM3 and OM4 multimode optical fibers. In tests conducted at Corning's Center for Fiber Optic Testing, UL verified the fibers meet or exceed the bandwidth specifications of the following standards.

  • TIA-455-220-A Differential Mode Delay Measurement of Multimode Fiber in the Time Domain
  • IEC 60793-1-49 Optical Fibers Part 1-49; Measurement Methods and Test Procedures Differential Mode Delay

According to Corning, the tests were conducted using its Differential Mode Delay and associated Minimum Calculated Effective Modal Bandwidth measurements.

Both measurement methods are standard-recognized, but Corning has favored and advocated the minEMB(c) measurement method for some time.

ClearCurve OM3 and OM4 multimode fibers are bend-insensitive, which according to Corning enables them to offer up to 10 times better bend performance than standard multimode fibers.
