97 Cabling Installation Expo features ehibits, workshops, and a contest

The board of directors and corporate officers of CommScope Inc. (Hickory, NC) have been announced by the firm`s parent company, General Instrument Corp. (Chicago, IL). Sitting on the board of directors will be Frank M. Drendel, chair; Edward S. Breen; Nicholas C. Forstmann; George N. Hutton; and James N. Whitson. The corporate executives of CommScope Inc. will be Drendel; Randall Crenshaw; Brian D. Garrett; William R. Gooden; Jearld L. Leonhardt; Frank J. Logan; Larry W. Nelson; Gene W. Swithenbank; and Frank B. Wyatt II. CommScope manufactures coaxial cable and supplies electronic cable.

Fiber-optic local area network (lan) components manufacturer Allied Telesyn (Bothell, WA) has joined the Telecommunications Industry Association`s (TIA--Arlington, VA) Fiber Optics lan Section (fols). Formed in 1993, the fols advocates optical transmission in lans, and particularly fiber-to-the-desk applications. The fols includes a standards committee, communications committee, and membership committee.

Alcoa Fujikura Ltd. (Brentwood, TN), a provider of fiber-optic products and services for the telecommunications and electric-utility markets, and Six "R" Communications Inc. (Monroe, NC), a provider of engineering, furnishing, and installation services to telecommunications companies in the southeastern United States, have formed Six "R" Communications LLC. The new company will provide engineering, furnishing, and installation services to the telecommunications, cable-TV, and electric-utility industries. It will be headquartered in Monroe, NC, with additional facilities in Greensborough, Raleigh, and Wilmington, NC; Irmo, SC; and Norcross, GA.
