Fluke (Everett, WA), an electronic test-equipment manufacturer, has signed a license agreement with Cisco Systems Inc. (Menlo Park, CA) that provides Fluke with access to proprietary protocol details used in a Cisco series of switches. Under the agreement, Cisco`s virtual thinking protocol and discovery protocol will enhance features in Fluke`s SwitchWizard option, version 7.5. The new SwitchWizard option lets network administrators see across virtual local area networks throughout an entire enterprise environment.

Corning Inc. (Corning, NY), a manufacturer of optical fiber, optical cable, and photonic components, has completed its acquisition of Optical Corporation of America, a supplier of optoelectronic components and systems. The business has been renamed Corning oca and will be integrated into Corning`s Photonic Technologies Div. Manufacturing and research-and-development operations for Corning oca will remain in Marlborough, MA, and Garden Grove, CA.

Frederic Thepot, director of technology for Anixter Inc. (Skokie, IL), a value-added provider of integrated communications systems and services, has been elected chair of the atm Forum`s European Market Awareness Education Committee. The atm Forum is a worldwide nonprofit organization that works to accelerate the deployment of atm products and services. Thepot will lead the European marketing activity of the committee for one year.

For the third consecutive year, Alcatel Telecommunications Cable (Claremont, NC) has been chosen "Best in Class" among suppliers of outside-plant products by gte Telephone Operations. gte recognizes suppliers based on their ability to deliver required inventories on time, provide competitive prices, offer high-quality customer service, and provide quality products and service. Alcatel manufactures fiber-optic cable for outside-plant and indoor environments.
