The Telecommunications Industry Association (tia--Arlington, VA) has promoted five staff members. Cathy Tavarozzo has been named associate vice president of trade shows and conferences, Sharon Grace has been appointed director of communications, and Anna Amselle has been promoted to controller. Christina Kim has been named accounting manager, and Laurie Cipriano has been appointed manager of trade shows and conferences. tia is a trade organization that provides communications and information technology products, materials, systems, and services.

Ed Thompson has been appointed vice president of new business development for Harmonic Lightwaves Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA). He will be responsible for expanding Harmonic`s business into new areas of the fiber-optics and digital-video markets, as well as investigating and moving forward into new domains within the communications industry. Harmonic Lightwaves is a supplier of fiber- optic transmission systems.

W.S. Garland, president and owner of Resource Property Services (Toronto, ON, Canada), has been elected the forty-eighth president of the Building Owners and Managers Association (boma--Washington, DC), an association of those who own or manage commercial real estate. Garland has been a boma member for 16 years.

wpi/Burton, a manufacturer of interconnecting devices and cables, has relocated its headquarters and manufacturing facility from El Segundo, CA, to a 25,000-square-foot building in Gardena, CA. The facility is at 1510 West 135th Street.

Southwire Co. (Carrollton, GA), a long-time producer of power cables for utility, building, and industrial applications, now manufactures a line of cable products for telecommunications and data-communications applications. Its initial product offering is Cyberlan, a Category 5 unshielded twisted-pair cable. The company expects to release more product lines in the next several months.
