PennWell launches structured cabling marketplace seminar

Sep 1, 1998

Arlyn S. Powell, Jr.

Jay Regan, group publisher of Cabling Installation & Maintenance, announced this week that the magazine would be sponsoring a Structured Cabling Marketplace seminar to be held in conjunction with the annual Cabling Installation Expo, scheduled for October 12 to 14, 1998, at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta.

"The idea of the seminar," says Regan, "is to provide exhibitors and attendees at Cabling Installation Expo with an opportunity to learn more about the business end of the cabling industry." He stresses that the seminar would be an all-day meeting held on Monday, October 14, so it would not conflict with the exhibits, which open on Monday evening, or with the conference program prepared by cosponsor bicsi (Tampa, FL), which opens Tuesday morning.

"This will be the first cabling- industry seminar that looks at both the fiber-optic and copper-wire sides of the business," adds Regan. "Tentatively, we`re scheduling speakers on the North American markets for both fiber-optic and copper-wire cabling and components, for both premises and customer-owned outside-plant applications."

The seminar will also be the first to cover installation services, as opposed to cabling hardware. According to group editorial director Arlyn Powell, "We at Cabling Installation & Maintenance are sponsoring the first original research--that we`ve heard about, anyway--on the low-voltage contracting marketplace. This research should be tremendously useful to our readers. We get a phone call at least once a week asking if such information is available, and up until now we`ve had to say `no.` " Powell adds that he would be presenting the original research at the seminar.

Also scheduled for Structured Cabling Marketplace attendees is a sit-down lunch with a speaker, a keynote address by a prominent industry figure attuned to where the cabling industry is likely to go over the next five years, and a panel discussion that will include speakers on a hot industry topic such as Gigabit Ethernet. Each attendee will also receive a full proceedings of the research presented at the event.
