The dsp-4000 Digital Cable Analyzer is Category 5E- and Category 6-ready and satisfies both the copper and fiber test requirements of the new standards, according to Fluke Corp. The analyzer tests both installed and new cable to the new Category 5/Class D, Category 5E, and the anticipated Category 6/Class E standards, and even verifies to the proposed Category 7/ Class F stan- dard to 350 megahertz.
The device features testing capabilities to 350 MHz to meet the anticipated frequency range for upcoming standards for high-performance cabling systems. The proposed Category 6 standard is anticipated to specify transmission performance to either 200 or 250 MHz. Fluke says that the tester exceeds this range and measures such critical test parameters as near-end crosstalk and far-end crosstalk with typical accuracy of 1.5 decibels.
In addition, several optional vendor-specific connector assemblies, called "link interface adapters," let users tailor the tester for the specific Category 6 installation at hand. These adapters provide an 8-pin modular jack interface for a matching end-plug on the link under test.
The analyzer is fully compliant with the proposed accuracy requirements for the new standards and is UL-certified to the Level II accuracy specified by telecommunications systems bulletin tsb-67.
An optional fiber test adapter allows testing of dual multimode fiber links at 850 and 1300 nanometers. Pass/fail test results are provided based on common fiber test standards. The adapter simplifies fiber tests by allowing dual-fiber bidirectional testing.
