Gepco re-vamps high density fiber distribution rack

November 13, 2009 -- Gepco International, a General Cable company and provider of professional audio and video interconnect products, has introduced its HDR1 [High Density Distribution] rack, an updated design of its original HDR distribution rack. With a new electrically isolated, 1RU six-position design, the HDR1 is a compact and expandable solution for SMPTE hybrid fiber patching and distribution systems.

The HDR1 can deliver up to six SMPTE 304M positions in a 1RU space, or up to 12 positions in a 2RU space (with two HDR1 units). Commonly used for machine room patching of multiple camera positions to available CCU control units, the HDR1 provides a streamlined cross-connect or distribution system in a compact form factor.

Each SMPTE 304M hybrid connector position of the HDR1 externally breaks out to separate ST fiber and electrical connectors on the rear of the chassis. This breakout format eliminates the need for the specialized tooling and labor required to directly terminate SMPTE 304M connectors.

New to the HDR1, all positions are electrically isolated by non-conductive connector mounts on the front, while designation strips allow for custom user labeling and identification. Further, available with SMPTE 304M plug or socket connectors, the HDR1 now comes in a standard modular frame that allows all configurations to be expanded up to six-channels with optional expansion kit modules.

“The HDR1 delivers our highest density solution for the patching and distribution of SMPTE hybrid fiber camera locations,” says Scott Fehl, product marketing manager for General Cable's Gepco and Isotec Brands. “Our original HDR series set the standard for hybrid fiber distribution, and now the HDR1 series delivers improved expandability, electrical isolation, customized identification, and greater density in a standard configuration.”
