Arecont Vision recently announced that its 1.3-megapixel IP camera is being used at European sporting venues to determine track-and-field, biking, horse-racing and dog-racing "photo finishes." Arecont points out the Vojvodina Track and Field Club in Novi Sad, Serbia in particular as an example of its megapixel IP camera's use.
That facility uses Arecont's 1.3-megapixel camera, along with software, to record and review races. The setup is shown at the bottom of this screen. The camera is placed on the inside track and the race is recorded on a laptop, while a second laptop receives the live stream. Live video is displayed on the stadium's big screen. Duski Milicic, who is a photo-finish judge at the facility, said the system will be used at all future sporting events in case an appeal needs to be decided. "The megapixel IP system is portable and easy to install on the laptop computers," he said. "I also like that it can record at 30 frames per second. The camera's clear images have already been used to settle appeals in a couple of races by determining the correct order of athletes."
Arecont points out that both full-frame and individual regions of interest can be captured for review. The company's camera line ranges in image resolution from 1.3 to 20 megapixels.
