BICSI seeking Installer of the Year

October 26, 2009 – For the third consecutive year, BICSI will hold a skills competition and crown one installer (or technician) Installer of the Year. BICSI will hold the annual competition during its Winter Conference, which will be held in Orlando, FL in January 2010. The competition will take place January 17-20.

The competition is open to individuals who hold any of the following BICSI designations: ITS Installer 1; ITS Installer 2; ITS Installer 2, Copper; ITS Installer 2, Fiber; ITS Technician. Each participant must secure approval and sponsorship from their employer. There is no entry fee, and competitors will receive a full paid registration to the winter conference and exhibition.

Competitors will be divided into three groups: Level 1, Level 2, and Technician. The winner in each group will receive a trophy and prizes. The overall winner will receive a grand prize of $5,000.

The competition will kick off with an inaugural luncheon on Sunday, January 17. From there, each participant will compete in the following events over the course of three days: structured cabling system installation; copper cable terminations and firestopping; fiber terminations; cable assembly; cable troubleshooting and technical support; and a competency exam. Additionally, participants will be judged on professionalism, with scores based on resume, attendance and promptness at the orientation luncheon, attitude, safety, use of tools and equipment, attention to detail, and aesthetics.

The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, January 20. Anyone interested can download an application form from BICSI’s Web site.
