Corning Cable Systems intros multi-fiber preconnectorized OSP line

Feb 22, 2010

Corning Cable Systems GmbH & Co KG, part of Corning Inc.'s Telecommunications segment, will present its new Multi Fiber Preconnectorized OSP line at the FTTH Council Europe Conference 2010 on Feb. 24-25, in Lisbon, Portugal. This multi-fiber “plug 'n play” offering is designed to enable the advantages of preconnectorized OSP to be used in a multi-fiber environment.

The Multi Fiber Preconnectorized OSP offering is designed to enable outside plant (OSP) fiber access networks that require more than a single fiber to benefit from enhanced design flexibility, increased deployment speed, and reduced initial installation costs. Using Corning's patented OptiTip MT Connector technology, up to four fibers per customer can be rapidly connected without the need for expensive fusion splicers or installation skills, Corning says.

"It is now possible to take advantage of the widely recognized benefits of preconnectorized drops in FTTH networks, where more than one fiber per customer is required," said Dr. Thomas Knuth, business manager FTTH Systems, Corning Cable Systems EMEA. "The additional fibers could be necessary for open access networks or simply for reasons of future-proofing the network."
