September 8, 2009 -- Panduit has introduced an inlet duct system designed to provide cool air to 1RU switches. When deployed within server cabinets or racks as part of data center infrastructure, the modular duct provides a cool air path to the air intakes on the sides of the switch. Joining Panduit's NET-ACCESS line of Cisco-compatible cabinet systems, the modular inlet duct system has tested compatible with Cisco's Catalyst 4948, 4928 and 4924 switches.
According to Panduit, being "Day 1 or Day 2" installable, the modular inlet duct system can be deployed after the 4948 and other equipment has been installed. The requirement to replace or disturb existing cabinets, equipment and infrastructure is thereby eliminated, lowering capital expenditures and minimizing risk. By providing a path for cool air to the switch, data center temperature set points may be raised, resulting in higher energy efficiencies and lower operating costs, while contributing to a lower cost of ownership, enhanced data center infrastructure and overall network performance.
