IP video surveillance software available for free

Aug 26, 2010

Milestone Systems has made a basic version of its XProtect IP video surveillance software package available for free. XProtect Go has features that best accommodate small businesses and residential customers wanting to secure their property with IP video surveillance and be able to manage the video files. The XProtect Go IP video surveillance software package allows users to manage and view up to eight cameras.

Milestone's head of product management Christian Bohn said the free offer is meant to allow new customers to try out the XProtect product without any initial cost, and simultaneously provide an upgrade path to more fleshed-out versions of the package, including those that integrate with other security products. He expects the free offer will extend Milestone's presence among IP video users and also drive business to the company's security-system partners.

In addition to eight network cameras, the XProtect Go IP video surveillance software package allows users to manage 4 USB/web cameras or analog cameras. Video can be viewed live or recorded and archived for up to five days. Other storage capabilities, including long-term storage on DVD, are also included.
