Cables To Go unveils digital plenum cables

Jun 10, 2010

LAS VEGAS --  At InfoComm 2010, Cables To Go introduced a series of commercial-grade digital plenum cables for meeting the highest standards in safety and reliability with options for HDMI, DVI and DVI + 3.5 mm audio signals.

“Strict building code requirements for cabling in plenum spaces have created installation challenges in schools, hospitals and other commercial buildings,” says Gary Hess, vice president of innovation for Lastar, parent company of Cables To Go.

The digital plenum cables support resolutions of 1080p for displays and up to 1920x1200 for computers. Shielded 24 AWG copper conductors protect against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) to ensure uninterrupted performance. The cables will be available in both the Pro Series line and RapidRun modular cabling system.

Hess adds, “Previous solutions have needed to convert the digital signals to run over Cat5 or Cat6 and then convert them back. This adds complexity due to the signal conversion, requires a power source and introduces the possibility of signal degradation. With digital plenum cables from Cables To Go, commercial installers have a simple, flexible means to transmit digital signals through plenum spaces.”

The Pro Series plenum cables range from 6 feet to 100 feet and come with 24k gold-plated connectors to prevent metal corrosion. The HDMI, DVI and DVI + 3.5mm audio cables will be available in both CL2 (in-wall) and CMP (plenum) versions. (For Canadian installations, the CL2 rating is equivalent to FT4 and CMP rating is equivalent to FT6.) The plenum cable runners for the RapidRun modular cabling system range from 15 feet to 100 feet. The same runner can accommodate HDMI, DVI and DVI + audio signals by simply switching out the wall plate or flying lead.

The Cables To Go Pro Series and RapidRun digital plenum cables will be available in October through Cables To Go partners. For more information, visit www.cablestogo.com.
