Belden intros DataTwist 3600 cables

May 28, 2009

May 28, 2009 -- Belden has introduced its DataTwist 3600 cables, a series of UTP copper cables that the company says meet and exceed TIA/EIA requirements and offer significant headroom for Category 6 installations. The cables are designed to support Belden's Category 6 IBDN System 3600, which is designed to deliver high throughput and error-free performance in high-traffic and high-bit-rate applications.

The DataTwist 3600 cables feature a smaller diameter and increased bandwidth to enable high-density installations. According to Belden, the cables provide extremely stable transmission characteristics, plus a signal-to-noise ratio that ensures error-free performance in local area networks (LANs) where noise and interference are high. As part of the Belden IBDN System 3600, the cables deliver 280 MHz of usable channel bandwidth while surpassing Category 6 requirements as per the TIA/EIA-568-B.2-1 standard.

The DataTwist 3600 cables consist of 4 pairs of 23 AWG insulated copper conductors with a round flexible core construction. The patented design incorporates a central spline to provide pair separation, and matched conductors on all four pairs for superior electrical performance.

The cables can be specified in either a non-bonded-pair design or in Belden's patented bonded-pair design. The bonded-pair cables feature an ultra-robust construction in which the individual conductors are securely bonded along their longitudinal axis to guarantee uniform spacing within each twisted pair - a key factor in maintaining superior performance and cable integrity through the stresses of installation and beyond.

Greg Dietz, Belden's networking cable product manager adds, "Belden's bonded-pair cables can provide additional peace of mind when deployed in mission-critical data centers, networks having frequent moves, adds and changes, and networks in which electrical noise and interference are high."

The Belden DataTwist 3600 cables are available in a wide selection of colors and in plenum or non-plenum designs. Both bonded-pair and non-bonded-pair designs offer a small diameter for higher density installation - especially valuable for cable runs inside conduit, notes the company.

Packaging options include spool or spool-in-box, with both featuring a descending sequential marking scheme to show exactly how much cable remains on the spool or in the box. For installers, this feature translates into faster, easier installation with less waste, notes Belden.
