TIA webconference discusses Tier 1 and Tier 2 fiber-optic testing

Event will emphasize importance of testing, cleaning and polarity verification for data center fiber-optic networks.

A webconference being hosted by the TIA Fiber Optics LAN Section (FOLS) on Thursday, October 4 will discuss Tier 1 and Tier 2 fiber-optic testing specifically as the procedures relate to data centers. In an announcement of the webconference, the TIA explained, “Today’s high-speed networks require more-stringent performance than typical LANs. To be sure the networks will support today’s networking applications, it is important to properly clean, inspect and test optical-fiber networks. This webinar will address which tests are required and recommended and how to perform them.”

The conference will cover inspection and cleaning techniques, Tier 1 testing using an optical-loss test set (OLTS), Tier 2 testing using an optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR), and polarity verification.

The event will take place live from 11am EDT to 12:15pm EDT on Thursday, October 4. Attendees will earn one continuing education credit (CEC) from BICSI for their participation.
