Redesigned fish tapes from Klein Tools

Dec. 13, 2019
Klein Tools updated its steel and fiberglass fish tape models based on feedback from cable-pulling tradespeople.

Klein Tools recently updated its fish tape product line, including steel and fiberglass models. The company says the redesigns were based on feedback from tradespeople, to maximize efficiency and durability.

All fish tapes feature a new housing design that the company says improves grips and leverage, and reduces binding. The new case design makes paying-out tape easier by optimizing the payout angle through the handle. The multi-position handle gives a firm, steady grip to pull or rewind the tape from the case, Klein Tools emphasizes.

Klein’s steel fish tapes are one-eighth-inch wide. Their new high carbon steel’s protective coating guards against moisture but is dry to the touch with no oily finish. The double loop creates a stronger, snag-resistant end, Klein says. They are available with stainless-steel tapes.

The fiberglass fish tapes have improved pushing power while maintaining low-friction maneuverability. The multi-groove fiberglass has multiple grooves molded in, thereby reducing friction, increasing flexibility and maintaining strength. The 7-inch spiral steel leader offers flexibility, and the updated non-conductive nylon tip has been made narrower for easier feeding; it also is chamfered for less catch when pulling.

“Our goal in redesigning Klein Tools’ fish-tape line was to make every model excel on the job site, based on feedback we collected from end users in the field,” said Aaron Holcomb, product manager at Klein Tools. “Using a durable, high carbon steel, we were able to achieve smoother payout and improved durability to withstand drops, so now the materials and ergonomics match jobsite needs better than ever.”
