The 100-meter maximum distance for twisted-pair copper cabling systems and their applications has been a standards-imposed limit for decades. The reality of today’s enterprise and campus environments is that multiple building systems reside on the network, and network devices of all types frequently are located in remote locations farther than 100 meters from the nearest telecommunications room (TR). In many cases, these devices are Power over Ethernet-capable, making twisted-pair cabling the ideal medium to support them—if only that 100-meter barrier could be overcome.
