Ethernet Alliance releases white papers for 802.3ba 40/100G interoperability testing
Interoperability white papers detail test results of the group's Higher Speed Ethernet (HSE) and Ethernet in the Data Center plugfests.
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- The Ethernet Alliance announced the release of a collection of new white papers including two interoperability white papers. The first interoperability white paper details the test results of the Higher Speed Ethernet (HSE) subcommittee’s plugfest for products designed to support IEEE Std. 802.3ba-2010, 40 and 100 Gbps Ethernet. The second interoperability white paper covers the Ethernet in the Data Center subcommittee’s data center bridging (DCB) plugfest that included the first interoperability testing of IEEE Std. 802.1Qau-2010 Congestion Notification (QCN).
Both plugfest papers provide valuable insights into the status of interoperability for these standards and have been made available in conjunction with the Ethernet Alliance’s SuperComputing 2010 (SC10) demonstration. The technology demonstration will include 10GbE, 40GbE and 100GbE as well as converged traffic including FCoE, 10GBASE-T, iSCSI, iWARP and RoCE. SC10 is being held from November 16 - 18 at the Ernest N. Moriale Convention Center (ENMCC) in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Additional new white papers posted to the site include: 40 Gigabit Ethernet Market Potential; Data Center Bridging; and 10GBASE-T for Broad 10 Gigabit Adoption in Data Centers.
Sixteen Ethernet Alliance members participated in the HSE interoperability testing including Altera, Amphenol, CommScope, Cisco, FCI, Finisar, Ixia, Leviton, Mellanox Technologies, Opnext, Panduit, Siemon, Sumitomo Electric, Vitesse Semiconductor, and Volex. The companies gathered at Ixia’s iSimCity in Santa Clara, California during the week of September 13, 2010 assisted by the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Lab (UNH-IOL) to verify interoperability of test equipment, switches, routers, NICs, transceivers and cabling. Complete success was achieved for interoperability between transceivers, cables and systems tested, except for one cable that was determined to be faulty due to incorrect assembly.
The DCB plugfest took place the week of May 17, 2010 and focused on testing the interoperability of cabling, test equipment, network adapters, storage systems and switches built to support IEEE 802.1 DCB standards and draft standards. Member participants including Cisco, Dell, Emulex, - Ixia, JDSU, Leviton, Marvell, Mellanox Technologies, Panduit, QLogic, Spirent, and Volex. In addition, to the of interoperability testing of QCN, testing also included DCB Capability Exchange Protocol (IEEE P802.1Qaz), Enhanced Transmission Selection (IEEE P802.1Qaz) and Priority-based Flow Control (IEEE P802.1Qbb).
